Custom Seawind 1160 Sunbed Upholstery

An extra space to enjoy this all-round catamaran.

One of the great things about custom marine upholstery is the ability to turn an unused area of a boat into a completely new space to enjoy.

For this Seawind 1160 catamaran, part of the Sail Central Coast – Private Yacht Charters,  we created a large sunbed and lounging area across the forward deck, giving the guests an extra place to relax and enjoy the sun.

The upholstery was designed specifically around the shape and dimensions of the Seawind 1160 forward deck. The foam was shaped to follow the curves and angles of the boat, using different thicknesses and articulated sections to create a comfortable seating and lounging area while fitting neatly into the available space.

For the upholstery, we chose the bright-striped Dolce Oasis Sunbrella outdoor fabric for the main seating, contrasted with solid Sunbrella Navy around the edges to define the shape and give the upholstery a clean, finished look.

Seawind Sun Lounge Upholstery, built to last

Good outdoor upholstery needs to do much more than look good.

The underside of each squab is made from marine-grade mesh, allowing air to circulate through the foam and helping moisture escape. This assists with drying and helps keep the inside of the cushions fresh.

All seams are top-stitched, effectively stitching the seams twice for additional strength while also helping the fabric sit neatly and shed water. We use heavy-duty 138 sailmaker’s thread throughout.

The cushions are secured to the deck using built-in bolt rope which slides into short lengths of track fitted to the boat, together with stainless-steel fittings at the front. This keeps the upholstery securely in position while still making each section easy to remove when required.

The removable system is particularly useful for cleaning and maintenance, storage, or simply taking the upholstery off the deck before a long passage.

The result is a completely new area of the boat: comfortable, practical, removable and designed from the beginning to cope with the marine environment.

And most importantly, a pretty good spot for an afternoon drink ! 😊
